Development of plugins for 3D Projection Mapping at Yokohama ORBI museum
- Design of the workflow for preparing contents
- 3D Studio Max deformer plugin: alter the shape of 3D model of animals to fit a custom surface
- After Effects plugin for easy preparation of the mapping contents
- 3D Simulation software for preview
Orbi Yokohama, a nature-themed museum by Sega and BBC Earth, was divided into several sections. I worked on two of these.
The first was a large wall made of blocks, featuring projection mapping content. This involved designing a template, along with an After Effects plugin to assist in preparing data for that template, as well as a 3D simulator built for testing the content before deployment.
The second was an object that could transform into different animals through projection mapping. The tricky part was that the content had to be visible and understandable from a full 360 degrees around the object, with no single best viewpoint. To address this, I designed an original workflow supported by a custom 3ds Max deformer plugin.
